DESCRIPTION
CCSC Interns are employees of the CCSC (Consortium of Christian Study Centers).
In partnership with the Center for Christian Study, this position serves a Christian study center at the University of Virginia.
About the Consortium of Christian Study Centers: CCSC exists to catalyze and empower thoughtful Christian presence and practice at colleges and universities around the world, in service of the common good. It achieves this by facilitating the flourishing of existing study centers, encouraging the development of new study centers, and raising awareness of the study center movement.
About the Center for Christian Study:
The Center for Christian Study has been serving the UVA community for over fifty years. We seek to serve Jesus Christ by providing opportunities to investigate the truths of the historic Christian faith in response to the questions raised by contemporary society. Located just across from the UVA campus, our building is a home away from home and a safe space to study, enjoy a meal, and fellowship with others. We are proud to partner with other campus ministries to equip students to connect their faith with every area of life through learning, hospitality, and discipleship.
Accountability: The intern is accountable to the Internship Program Director of CCSC and to the Senior Director for Education and Programs at the Center for Christian Study. The Directors will coordinate the supervision of the position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Internship Partnership
- Maintain CCSC-related communication and commitments.
- Fulfill communication responsibilities to CCSC Internship Director.
- Represent the Center for Christian Study to CCSC staff and partner centers.
- Attend CCSC Annual Meeting.
Leadership and Spiritual Development
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities as set forth by CCSC and the Center for Christian Study.
- Pursue a growing relationship with the Lord through personal spiritual practices, including daily devotions and regular times of Scripture study, theological reflection, vocational discernment and days of solitude for reflection and renewal.
- Participate in regular staff rhythms of weekly Bible study and daily morning prayer.
Hospitality
- Participate in undergraduate hospitality and engagement events such as Foundations Week, Move-In Day Lunches, the Homecoming Tailgate, Family Weekend Reception, Exam Snacks, Rush Hospitality, and Graduation Lunch.
- Extend hospitality to individuals and groups of undergraduate students who come to study or fellowship in the building day to day.
Individual Discipleship and Pastoral Care
- Disciple individual undergraduate students, including residents and interns, and other students as occasion arises.
- Get to know the students in our core programs, alongside our Directors of Undergraduate Ministries who lead them.
- Provide pastoral care through one-on-one meetings with students or small group gatherings as needed.
Educational Programs
- Assist with educational events, in cooperation with the Senior Director for Education.
- Co-lead a Bible study or other small group as needed.
- Partner with other campus ministries in the common cause of serving students. This includes participation in monthly “Grounds Ministry” meetings and getting to know the other interns and staff of those ministries.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Spiritual health and fellowship–including membership in a local church, study of Scripture and spiritual disciplines.
- Engage in continuing education opportunities for professional and personal growth.
- Personal conduct reflective of CCSC and Center for Christian Study statements of faith and values.
Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Internship limited to candidates under 26 years old.
- Ability to recruit, motivate, empower, and equip others for leadership in ministry.
- A team player, but someone who can take initiative and work independently.
- Strong organization and time-management skills.
